History

Prudential's established presence in Mexico and Brazil has reinforced PREI's commitment to the importance of having a local presence and understanding local issues. With a strong local presence, PREI-Latin America joins other Prudential units already based in Brazil and Mexico.

1976: Prudential Financial forms a partnership with Bradesco Seguros. Prudential Atlântica Companhia Brasileira de Seguros begins operation in Brazil. In September 1997, this partnership was restructured and given a new focus, with the launching of Prudential-Bradesco Seguros. The Company's principal purpose is the business of insurance, with emphasis on its innovative concept: protection focused on the needs of each family.

1999: Prudential Financial acquires Prudential Apolo, establishing a presence in Mexico. At the end of 1999, just after the acquisition was complete, Prudential Apolo had 812 million pesos (US$87 million) in assets under management. By the end of 2001, that figure exceeded the 5 billion peso mark, at US$609 million.

2000: PREI establishes regional office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil through a joint venture with Brazilian bank, Icatu, forming Prudential-Icatu Investimentos Imobiliários, S.A. (PIGII).

2001: Prudential Relocation opens a new relocation company in Mexico, Prudential Relocation, S. de R.L. de C.V., handling all aspects of mobility management. The services available through this new office include: relocation policy consulting, home finding assistance, household goods transportation, assistance with visa and immigration, and cross-cultural and language training.

2002: Prudential Financial announces it will purchase IXE’s stake in Afore XXI S.A. de C.V., the ninth largest private pension manager in Mexico. The acquisition puts Prudential in partnership with the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), the government agency responsible for providing health and retirement benefits for Mexican workers and their families.

   
2002: an investment consortium led by PREI-Latin America closes on a US$46 million investment in Atlântica Residencial S.A. ("Atlântica"), a Brazilian homebuilder of low- and middle-income housing throughout Brazil.

2002: Prudential acquires Prudential-Bradesco Seguros, a Brazilian life insurance joint venture, for US$56.7 million.

2003: PREI buys Icatu’s interest in PIGII and the office in Rio de Janeiro becomes fully integrated into PREI-Latin America.

2003: PREI announces its strategic partnership with Mexican developers O’Donnell de Mexico and Casas Geo.

2005: PREI announces its strategic partnership with Mexican developers Amistad, Real Estate Management and Services Group and Acosta Verde.

2006: PREI announces its strategic partnership with Mexican developer IGS.

2007: PREI announces its strategic partnership with Mexican developer Desarollos Delta.

2008: PREI announces its strategic partnership with Mexican developer Costa Baja.

PREI announces its strategic partnership with Mexican developer UBSA.

PREI announces its strategic partnership with Mexican developer URBI.
